"MARIJUANA: TO MAKE A CHANGE”
Kat Relief Inc. www.reliefcooperative.org

With all of the recent media attention pointed in the direction of medical marijuana, one must take notice that a shift in human consciousness is occurring right before our very eyes.  The marijuana issue has taken center stage as of late.  It's on every major newscast, it's on every minor news station, it's in the magazines, and in the newspapers, it's on the radio, there is even a television series based on marijuana.   Not to mention the countless books and documentaries available for anyone to access.  Marijuana is the current issue that takes precedence in the minds of most Californians and probably the majority of the United States as a whole. We are all wondering the fate of the medical marijuana industry, especially those of us in San Diego, where it has been a sore issue for some time. Since there are no guarantees in life, we have to do what we can in this present moment to activate a positive future. What can you do, right now, to change the future to a more positive one? You can get educated, and get active, from wherever you stand, and for whatever reasons you stand for. The information is available for any one of us to access and to spread in a positive way.  You can't educate people from a stance of anger, even though the subject does enact anger in any human who is "awake". We are smart enough to know anger and anger only leaves you with more anger and no gain.  It is up to each and every one of us to educate ourselves and learn the benefits of cannabis, and to take a stand and demand our voices be heard.  We can be quieted as one, but as many it is impossible.

I have been studying the benefits of Marijuana for 3 years now, and every new thing I learn, makes me ponder in amazement, the current state of mind of so many throughout the world.  It wasn't until I had to deal with my own "system dysfunction" that I began to educate myself on the truth behind marijuana, in the hopes that I could replace my numbing pharmaceutical drugs for a more natural alternative.  I am sure there are millions just like me, but they are afraid to make the shift due to old negative beliefs, which have been ingrained in the consciousness of society regarding cannabis. I too was fooled at one point of my life. I was never against the use, because I believe people should be free to choose their own will, providing they cause no harm to others, but I was hypnotized into believing it was a “dangerous” substance, even though I had consumed it many times and new better. I was brainwashed like all others who are against it.

Once I began to see the light, I decided to make it my mission to learn all that I could about the subject, and I was determined to help as many people benefit from it as I could. I have succeeded with many people by guiding them into changing their old beliefs and showing them a new way of thinking. And in most cases it has saved their lives. In my quest, I came across a book written for medical doctors titled "Handbook of Cannabis Therapeutics, from bench to bedside" written by Dr. Ethan B Russo and Dr. Franjo Grotenhermen.  This book contains hundreds and hundreds of compiled scientific studies, all showing how amazing cannabis actually is for people.  It is not a biased book written by users, it is a medical book written by brilliant medical doctors referencing real case studies which have been conducted throughout history. There is an overwhelming amount of studies that have been done on everything from its beneficial medical use in almost every disease and ailment, to its habitual use and its side effects.  In my research I have found that Cannabis has been proven to contain large amounts of antioxidants, is a neuro-protector (this is why its consumption has never been linked to lung cancer), it stops the progression of many cancers and other major malfunctions, it enables your body to rapidly heal itself, and you even age slower as a result of its use.  From brain damage to bone breaks, cannabis aids in the healing process, and enables your body to heal at a faster rate than it could accomplish alone (this has all been proven).  There are absolutely no negative long term side effects.  Cannabis interacts with your body and its systems in such a way that chemical reactions occur in your brain, and whatever ailment you have, it fixes and/ or aids in the process of healing.  It connects the signals that are malfunctioning in your brain, and enables them to work properly.  It relaxes your soul so your immune system can function at optimum levels.  It is saddening to learn how much has been kept secret from us. Most people know it has medicinal value, but how many know why it does what it does? The more you know the more powerful you become, and if human rights are important to you, you will educate as many as you can.

It is baffling to me that we still have to "fight" for our rights to consume cannabis, not only as patients, but as people.  We all know of the atrocities that are being done to hinder the use of the plant; I don't have to reiterate what has been said before or what is obvious to see.  My reason for writing this article is to reach as many people as I can, to get the message of unity across to all, in the hopes that it will seep into consciousness and create a change.  We have been molded as a society to believe this abundant plant is bad and that you should be punished for consuming it.  We have to break that mold. The facts of all things are right there for all to see.  The information is out there.  The more people we can influence by standing together as a whole, the faster and more positively things change.  If you notice the shift, you will know it is because of people speaking out in numbers, and demanding to be heard.  We are making headway.  Look at how far we have come, from absolutely no use, to medical use, and for the future, we can only hope.  We all know we shouldn't even have to make this argument or any argument for that matter.  It should be common sense.  We shouldn't have to "prove" the beneficial use of cannabis.  But, the fact of the matter is WE DO, and we can't change the past.  We have the job of undoing all of the negative implantations that have occurred throughout recent history.  We have the power to enable people in understanding its medicinal value and that there are establishments that operate in a professional and whole spirited level. We can show the city of San Diego we can and are following the law. All of these things we can do so we can access our medicine safely and without fear. It is our responsibility for ourselves and generations to come, to keep moving forward until we have reached a point of equality.  We have to acknowledge that we have come very far, and that there is still further to go; we can get there faster if we do it together. It must be done in a more positive way.  We have to focus on the positive side of the fence and someday the negative will fade away.  If we believe it, it must be.  If we support each other, it must be.

We have come to a point where it cannot be ignored any longer and each of our voices makes an impact.  As we ban together to push forward for our rights, we add to the collective consciousness, and eventually we will break through.  It's about standing behind each other in a positive way and making real change.  It’s about getting involved and voting in elections that will make a difference, it’s about appearing at hearings in support of our fellow medical marijuana comrades, voting on bills of importance, and offering educated opinions in favor of its use.  Most importantly no matter what your reason for being in the marijuana industry is, it’s about moving forward, day by day, event by event until eventually, they will have no choice but to hear us and listen.
